Level 1

Age 12-14


Over the span of 6 weeks, Level 1 students will engage in a development-focused experience aimed at establishing strong foundational skills and nurturing a passion for ballet.

Weekly Curriculum:

  • Extension Classical Ballet Classes: Tailored to the developmental needs of younger dancers, these classes will prioritise building a solid ballet foundation. Emphasis will be placed on technique, posture, and basic movement principles suitable for this age group.

  • Pilates Class: Age-appropriate Pilates sessions will be incorporated to enhance strength, flexibility, and core stability. These sessions will provide a supportive framework for the physical development of budding dancers.

  • Pointe Class: This class will introduce the fundamentals of pointe work, catering specifically to the unique requirements of dancers in the 12-14 age range. Focus areas will include building strength, achieving proper alignment, and gaining a basic understanding of dancing en pointe.

  • Boys Technique Class: Dedicated classes for boys, emphasising the unique technical and physical aspects of male ballet dancers. These sessions will focus on strength, power, and agility specific to boys' dance training.

Level 2

Age 15-18


For older, more experienced dancers in Level 2, the Melbourne Youth Ballet Company's Pathway Program offers a comprehensive and advanced training experience tailored to prepare participants for the challenges of a professional ballet career.

Weekly Curriculum:

  • Extension Classical Ballet Classes: Geared towards refining existing skills, these classes will challenge dancers to elevate their technique, artistry, and expressiveness in ballet practice. Advanced combinations will be introduced to challenge dancers beyond their current abilities.

  • Advanced Pilates Class: Pilates sessions focused on enhancing muscular endurance, flexibility, and core strength. These sessions will provide a solid foundation to meet the rigorous demands of advanced ballet training.

  • Progressive Pointe Class: This class will focus on refining pointe technique, artistry, and the nuanced aspects of dancing en pointe. Advanced exercises and combinations will be introduced to further develop dancers' proficiency and confidence in pointe work.

  • Pathways Q&A: Get invaluable advice on navigating the pathway to becoming a professional dancer. Our seasoned instructors and guest professionals will share personal experiences, discuss the steps needed to succeed, and provide guidance on making informed decisions in the competitive world of ballet.

  • Theatre Etiquette and Professionalism: Learn the nuances of working in a professional setting, from understanding backstage etiquette to handling yourself in auditions and performances. This workshop aims to prepare participants for the expectations and standards of the professional ballet world.

  • Contemporary Workshops: Explore the expressive and dynamic world of contemporary dance. These workshops will introduce participants to contemporary techniques, allowing them to broaden their movement vocabulary and adapt to diverse choreographic styles.

  • Pas de Deux Workshops: Delve into the art of partnering with our dedicated Pas de Deux workshops. Participants will learn the intricacies of dancing in pairs, focusing on coordination, communication, and mutual support—a crucial skill for any aspiring professional ballet dancer.

  • Audition Preparation Workshop: Learn essential skills and strategies to excel in auditions. This workshop will cover audition etiquette, how to present yourself confidently, and tips for showcasing individual strengths during the audition process.

Additional Training


Tailored Pilates and Conditioning Sessions: Personalised sessions for individuals or small groups using Pilates reformers and specific equipment. These sessions will address the unique needs of each dancer, focusing on enhancing strength, flexibility.

Private Coaching: Private coaching sessions offer a tailored guidance to meet the specific needs and goals of each dancer. With a focus on areas such as technique, artistry, and performance quality.
